During the Erasmus+ period, Online Linguistic Support (OLS) is provided to students by the European Commission. Our university issues licenses to students who are officially granted the right to go abroad within the Erasmus+ Program, so they can use the OLS system and take the exams. The number of licenses is determined by the National Agency and is limited. Students who receive licenses are directly sent an email from the system with their username, password, and link to access the platform.
Students are expected to first create a profile on the system and then take the online exam. Taking the exam is mandatory, and students who do not take the exam will not receive 80% of their grant payment before going abroad. Students at our university whose exam results are below B1 level are asked to participate in online language courses through the system. Students who score above B1 level may choose to continue the online courses voluntarily. Licenses for courses are also distributed by our university.
At the end of the Erasmus+ activity, students are required to take the exam again. This exam is also mandatory. Students who do not take this exam will not receive the remaining portion of their grant.
The purpose of this system is solely to assess students’ language levels. It aims to provide free and online language support to students in need. The exam results will not prevent you from benefiting from the program.
Online Linguistic Support (OLS)
Scope of Online Linguistic Support
The European Commission provides the Online Linguistic Support system for students participating in higher education mobility activities. OLS is offered in the following languages: German, French, Dutch, Italian, English, Spanish, Czech, Danish, Greek, Polish, Portuguese, Swedish, Bulgarian, Finnish, Croatian, Hungarian, Romanian, Slovak, Irish, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Slovenian, and Maltese. Students conducting mobility activities abroad in these languages are subject to this system. However, students whose mobility language is their mother tongue are exempt from online linguistic support.
Online linguistic support includes mandatory exams and optional online language course support:
-
Mandatory Exams
Students selected for study or internship mobility take separate exams through the OLS system before starting and after completing their activities. Exams are held in the language of study or internship at the host institution. Students with multiple consecutive mobilities take separate OLS exams for each activity.
Exam results do not affect students’ selection status. The pre- and post-mobility exams aim to observe changes in language proficiency during the mobility period. Both exams are mandatory. If a student fails to take these mandatory exams, their grant will be reduced according to Article II.8. Force majeure conditions are reserved. Mandatory OLS exams cannot be used as a selection tool for mobility.
Exam results are visible only to the student and their sending higher education institution.
-
Optional Language Courses
After taking the language exam, students who feel insufficient according to their results, or who are recommended by their higher education institution, may voluntarily participate in online language courses before starting their mobility. Students who take the exam in German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, or Portuguese and score B2 or above, and students who take the exam in Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, Greek, Croatian, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian, Slovak, Finnish, or Swedish and score B1 or above may participate in online courses in the language of the host country if they wish. Course licenses for these students are assigned by their higher education institution. Participants can attend these courses, which become active at the start of mobility, for up to 13 months and may continue for two months after the mobility ends.
10.2. Participation in Online Language Exams and Courses
Higher education institutions are responsible for enabling students to participate in exams and language courses. The institution must assign mandatory exams before departure and at the end of mobility. Failure to fulfill this obligation without a valid excuse may lead to a 25% to 75% reduction in institutional support grants under the terms "Insufficient, Partial, or Late Implementation" of the Grant Agreement.
At the beginning of the contract period, the National Agency allocates language exam and course rights (licenses) according to mobility capacity to all institutions via the OLS system. Licenses are given as a total number regardless of language. The institution decides how many licenses to allocate per language.
The institution assigns the allocated exam rights to students performing mobility in each language through the OLS system. Course licenses are assigned separately to students who will take courses.
License assignment requires entering students’ email addresses into the system. Students receive exam and course access via the email link sent to them.
If the number of course licenses allocated by the institution is less than the number of students requesting courses, the institution distributes course licenses starting with students who have the lowest exam scores in the exam language.

Students who regularly attend OLS courses may be granted ECTS credits. The amount and conditions of ECTS credits granted via OLS are at the discretion of the higher education institution.
